Alan Belcher - Biography
Mr. Belcher was born in 1977 in Charleston, West Virginia. He grew up in a family that boasted builders, engineers and general contractors, and he often participated in construction projects himself. He is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College with a degree in political science and biology. While at Hampden-Sydney, Mr. Belcher participated in student government and was an investigator and advisor on the college's honor court. He also was a three-year varsity letterman on the college's NCAA football team.
Immediately out of college, Mr. Belcher went to work for a law firm. The following Fall Mr. Belcher enrolled in law school and went on to earn his degree from the West Virginia University College of Law with a commercial business law concentration. While at West Virginia University, Mr. Belcher was a moot court participant and an associate editor of the West Virginia Law Review.
Following law school Mr. Belcher concentrated his practice in professional liability and insurance-related general civil defense. In 2004, Mr. Belcher began to focus his practice more squarely on construction litigation. Today, he continues to represent insurance companies and the people and businesses they insure in a wide array of legal matters. He has spoken at a number of seminars on issues such as South Carolina state court jury verdicts and case law updates. He is licensed to practice in South Carolina and West Virginia state and federal courts.
Outside of the practice of law, Mr. Belcher has a number of interests. He is an active member in his church's children's ministry and is involved in various community outreach initiatives in the Charleston area. He also has volunteered his services in an "ask a lawyer program" and in the volunteer income tax assistance program. Most of all, he enjoys spending free time with his wife and three children.
